Bank (Casino) Craps Crew

The crew at a Craps table is made up of four staff: a boxman, a stickman and two dealers.

Boxman

The boxman oversees the game and sits at the centre of the table opposite the Stickman, between the two banks of numbers (4, 5, Six, 8, Nine, 10). They ensure that payoffs are correct, there is no cheating, and they also keep an eye on the chips set out on the table in front of them.

Stickman

The stickman stands at the centre of the table opposite the Boxman. They control the dice by using a long thin wooden stick, curved at the end, and call out the numbers thrown. Their most important operation is to bring back the dice after each roll, check their integrity, and then get them back to the shooter quickly for the next throw. Proposition bets (the bets in the table's centre) are made and paid by the stickman.

The stickman moves a small plastic disk known as the marker puck to track the progress of a game. Once the shooter has established a point number, the dealer will move the marker puck onto the appropriate number on the layout to indicate what it is. These numbers are in boxes (4, 5, Six, 8, Nine and 10 - known as Box Numbers) on the far side of the layout. The puck is turned white side up to indicate a round is in progress. When the shooter has made their point or sevens out, the puck is turned black side up, and moved to the Don't Come section.

It is thought to be bad luck for the Stickman to push the dice to you with a total of 7 face up. The crew know of this superstition and will always try to avoid doing so.

Dealers

Two dealers stand either side of the boxman (one behind each bank of numbers) and control play on their side of the table. They make payoffs on winning bets and collect on losing ones. If you want to make Free Odds, Place, or Lay bets you give your chips to the dealer and they make the bet for you.
