Bank (Casino) Craps Etiquette
When playing Bank Craps, there are a few rules you should know that will ensure that your gaming experience is pleasant for you AND the other players.
- Before you start playing, watch a few games so that you understand the rules. Relying on the other players and dealers to give you advice and instructions disrupts the play.
- Never lean on the Craps table.
- Never put drinks anywhere on the Craps table - there will be a shelf underneath the table specifically for you to store your drink.
- Don't sit down at a Craps table unless it has been specially designated a 'sit down' table.
- Don't lay bets down or throw cash on the table when the shooter is about to throw. Wait for an appropriate moment; for example, when the dice are in the middle of the table.
- Craps players are often superstitious and prefer to be left to their own game and not distracted.
- Never criticise or comment on any bets made by other players, even if you know they are unwise.
- Don't blow on the dice; you may think it good luck, but it's not very pleasant for the player who has to handle the dice after you.
- Make sure your dice don't knock over any chips that may be on the layout.
- When shooting the dice make sure they hit the back of the table at the other end. Dealers will often call out "Hit the back wall please!". However, you should also make sure that your dice don't fly over the top of the back rail and off the table.
- It is polite to tip dealers if they are helpful. You could make a bet for them by placing chips on the layout and announcing "for the House". If you choose their bet for them place it on the Pass Line or something that offers good odds. Alternatively, you could let them choose their own bet.
When at a Craps Table, you should never mention the number seven. Refer to 7 as 'it', as in "I hope it doesn't show". Some players call it the devil - "Don't let the devil show".
